Safety Programs

Rolling V's School Bus division operates with one primary maxim, Safety First: For Our Children. All of our processes, practices, and protocols are designed to ensure the safest school bus transportation network possible. Rolling V has an exceptional safety record: .0001 chargeable accidents per 1,000,000 miles.

The following programs are designed to ensure that our safety record remains one of the best in the region.

Starting the Day the Safest Way
Each Rolling V bus goes through a meticulous inspection before it is sent on its daily route and when it returns at the end of the day. Drivers check emergency equipment, lights, tires, and perform a full visual inspection of the interior and exterior of their assigned vehicle.
Planning for the Future
Our Safety Team is comprised of office staff, drivers, attendants, and mechanics. The Team has monthly meetings designed to continuously improve Rolling V's safety practices. We also participate in a School Site Safety Program in concert with the districts we serve. This program identifies potential hazards on school grounds.
An Extension of the School's Education System
We believe that safety should be taught at an early age and reinforced to children as they grow older. We have developed a Kindergarten and First Grade School Bus Safety Orientation to achieve this goal.

Children are taught proper loading and unloading procedures as well as ways to avoid injuries and fatalities in the "Danger Zone" (the blind spots in front of and around the bus where most injuries occur). We instill a sense of responsibility and train children to:

  • Be on time.
  • Never run toward or away from the bus.
  • Stand back from the edge of the road or curb.
  • Never push or shove.
  • Stay seated until the bus stops.
  • Talk in a normal voice without yelling or shouting.
  • Always obey and respect the driver.
  • Wait for the driver's signal before crossing the street.
  • Always cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus.
  • Be respectful of others.
School Bus Safety Competition
Rolling V also sponsors a rodeo-like School Bus Safety Competition. Our drivers traverse a test course filled with simulated hazards. Trophies and certificates are awarded at the end of the competition.
